
| Our History March 11th, 2003- Art Sivertsen was hired as the new Coordinator of Youth Services with the Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Department. March 13th, 2003- Final Study Circle Meeting. Teens felt the need for a Youth Council. Art Sivertsen Founded the youth council project. Robin Tennant was selected as a parent volunteer for the PTCYC (later named the Adult Facilitator). April 1st, 2003- Twelve Youth Council members were selected amongst themselves. Voted unanimously on the name PTCYC, (Peachtree City Youth Council) SHELBY BARKER was elected President of the PTCYC by unanimous vote. KEVIN CLINE was elected Vice President. July 12th, 2003- Battle of the Bands at the Fredrick Brown Jr. Amphitheater- over 500 youth came to watch this event, thanks to donations by local residents and businesses. City Council denied the Youth Council's money request but citizens that were attending the meeting offered over 1000 dollars in donations. Many skeptics said nobody would show up. The Youth Council raised $1900. Made front page in The Citizen. August 15th, 2003- Membership started to decrease from 12 to 5. A major recruitment campaign began to get more teens involved and needed new candidates for the upcoming election. Flyers were passed out during lunch at the high schools. October 23rd, 2003- The first ever Peachtree City Youth Council Debate and Election. Their peers elected six council members, after a debate and pizza party election at the Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center. November 13th, 2003- First official meeting held at the Rec. Admin. Bldg. Agenda was submitted to city hall and the elected recorder took official minutes. December 13th, 2003- Rake and Run Project PTC. Eight youths and two adults raked the leaves of two PTC senior citizens homes. They left gift baskets as a kind gesture. Made front page of Today In Peachtree City. December 19th, 2003- Winter Jam Party at Glenloch. Local bands and rap groups performed to a crowd of over 100 people. Pizza and refreshments were served; the Council raised $300 from the party. December 23rd, 2003- Southland Nursing Home- The Council participated in Adopt a Senior. The Youth Council purchased gifts for seniors that don't have family nearby. January 5th, 2004- First meeting of 04. Approved a "Halo" tournament, where teens can compete head to head, for prizes. The date is March 20th at the XPlayground. January 15th, 2004- Meet and welcome the new members of City Council. March 1st, 2004- Changed bylaws so that any High School Student that resides in Fayette County can join the PTCYC. Also to recruit new members the PTCYC will allow High School students to become members of the PTCYC if they attend 4 meetings and help at one special event or community service project. March 20th, 2004- “Halo” Tournament at the X-Playground. Over 30 teams competed for prizes that were donated by the XPlayground. March 30th, 2004- “Assist PYRO (Police Youth Relationship Organization) with “Street Smarts Trivia Tournament” Police vs. Youth at City Hall 6:30. Youth will answer questions about Law Enforcement and Police Will answer questions about pop culture, trends and fads etc… April 24th, 2004- Youth Council Community Action Day- The PTCYC updated and cleaned Out a cemetery on Hwy 54 near the Parkway. July 10th, 2004- Battle of the Bands 1004- Over 300 teens came to the “Battle of the Bands” this year Chopper John was the winner. October 14th, 2004- PTCYC Trip to Nightmare Haunted House- The PTCYC members had their first Field Trip to Nightmare Haunted House on Fulton Industrial in an old abandoned Factory. October 29th, 2004- Rocktober Fest- Over 200 Teens came to the Fred for Rocktober Fest. This event was scheduled during HS Football, so we will chose a different date next year. October 30th, 2004-Free Kids Halloween Party- The Youth Council offered a free alternative to Halloween for children ages 3-10. The Youth Council organized and manned all the aspects of the party, including decorating, costume contests, face painting and game booths. Over 100 children participated, advance registration was required. November 30th, 2004- PTCYC Recruiting Meeting- The youth council had over 25 teens that were interested in joining the Council. Info was sent to local media, and announcements were made in the High Schools. 5 Teens represented Fayette County High School, which was one of the targets for this recruitment. December 7th, 2004- 2nd Annual Pizza Party Debate and Election- High School students in Fayette County will Eat, Debate and vote at this event. All positions are vacant, 1 Chair and 5 Co-Chairs. Any High School Student that resides in Fayette County can run for this election, and any High School Student that resides in Fayette County can vote, but they must be present for the debate to be eligible to vote. December 16th, 2004-“Winter Jam 2004”- This is a night after finals party for HS students. The PTCYC is offering a laid back event, so teens can hang out with their friends and do what they enjoy doing. The event is on Thursday December 16th, from 6:30pm-10:30pm at the Gathering Place 203 McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City. Teens have a choice of hearing bands perform, Play Cards, XBox, Hacky Sack, Open Mic Freestyle Rap, or to just sit and talk to their friends. December 24th, 2004- Josea Williams Feed the Hungry- The PTCYC volunteered for this event at Turner Field. April 23rd, 2005- Dodgeball Tournament for Middle School thru Adult. Over 90 participants (30 teams) played 3 on 3 dodge ball for prizes and trophies. Prizes were donated by Velocity and the XPlayground. Youth Council Members assisted with Officiating, and Scorekeeping. August 6th, 2005- Summer Jam 2005 PTCYC's biggest concert to date. National Bands Honestly and Cartel performed for over 600 teens. The PTCYC broke even on the event. October 15th 2005- PTCYC Volunteers for Katrina Relief at Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry. Assisted with distribution of supplies, food and toiletries for Katrina Victims. October 29th, 2005-2nd Annual Free Kids Halloween Party- The Youth Council offered a free alternative to Halloween for children ages 3-10. The Youth Council organized and manned all the aspects of the party, including decorating, costume contests, face painting and game booths. Over 100 children participated, advance registration was required. December 15th, 2005- Caroling at the Southland Nursing Home. December 19th, 2005- The PTCYC requested to the PTC Recreation Commission that the name be officially changed to The Youth Council serving Fayette County or YCFC. The name change was approved 2-1. The Youth Council wanted High School Students outside of Peachtree City to know that this council is for everybody and not just Peachtree City Residents. The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department agreed to partner up with The Youth Council to assist in any way that they can. February 13th, 2006- The YCFC requested that a Teen Center should be added to the PTC Recreation Commission Master Plan. The vote was unanimous 5-0. May 12th 2006- Trip to Fat City Paintball May 2006- Presented Teen Activities at Glenloch concept to the PTC City Council at their annual retreat. City Council later voted to offer $3000 for seed money to the Rec. Dept. for a 3 month pilot program targeted at Middle Schoolers at Booth. August 2006- TAG started at Glenloch November 2006- TAG postponed for a potential collaberation with the FCBOE. December 15th 2006- Winter Jam Part II, @ PTC Christian Church. Over 200 youth came to watch Kenotia, Soul Sister, Night After Dark, 7 Sharp 9 and Between The Trees (from Orlando) peform. January-March 2007- Glenloch was host to numerous concerts, for local and national bands. March 2007- "Tell Yo Peeps" Trivia Nights began at Partners Pizza and XPlayground. New officers were elected. Brian Huefner and Matt Mcmahan were elected Co-Chairs. Kyle Gifford was elected Vice Chair. Nicole De Lisle was elected secretary. Chris and Debbie Lemay were accepted as new YCFC parent Liaisons. April 28, 2007- First YCFC Golf Cart Scavenger Hunt 4 person teams. $6 per team, prizes and food will be awarded. This is a fully run YCFC event, all YCFC members coordinated the scavenger hunt from beginning to end. May 2007- First "Ultimate Frisbee" tournament offered. 4 Teams participated. May 11, 2007- "The Bubble" is announced as the new name for Glenloch Rec. Center. The Rec. Dept. The first concert is Unleash The Bubble on May 11th, with Between The Trees, Lost Ocean, Ashlyn, Roses for Emily, and Ocean is Theory. August 2007- The Youth Council is on the first page on a search engine search for "Youth Council" September 25, 2007- “Clear The Path” volunteer clean up day at Drake Field/ Lake P’tree. 16 Volunteers helped clean by dumping trash. October 5th, 2007- The Youth Council becomes an official "Certifying Organization" for the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation". The Youth Council can now award presidential citations for youth and teen volunteer service. October 7th, 2007- Youth Council Co-Chair's Matt McMahan and Brian Huefner win GRPA 4th District Volunteers of the Year Awards for 2007! October 9th , 2007 Southland Nursing Home RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) project. 6:30p.m.- Bingo, Music, Conversation. October 18th, 2007- Haunted House Trip to Netherworld Haunted House November 10th, 2007- Thanks for Nothing Concert Planned Between The Trees, Automatic Loveletter, The Awkward Romance, Sing It Loud, and Backseat Goodbye. November 27th, 2007- Art Sivertsen named Executive Director of The Youth Council serving Fayette County. December 1st, 2007- Winter Jam III Concert at Glenloch. 100 Teens came to hear Joy In Tomorrow, Night After Dark, Ocean Is Theory, and Cream Soda Joe. |
